Are we treating End Users with enough respect! These people aren’t stupid.
The cry that comes up very often from the domain community is, “they don’t get it, they don’t understand why my domain is worth xxx.”
I myself have said just this and commented that we need to educate businesses and individuals on the benefits of owning a good domain name.
But maybe it’s not them that need educating, maybe we need to look at things from their perspective. The people who make the buying decisions in these companies are not stupid. They are well educated, experienced in most matters relating to business, have a good grasp of sales and marketing and have risen to their position because they are sharp and get results.
So before making an offer on a domain I’m positive they will research the industry, possibly read some of the more popular blogs, speak to their IT department, look at past and similar sales and when it comes to making an offer they have a pretty good grasp of what it is worth. Now if they are desperate to have the name then our job is made very easy, but this is only very rarely the case. Most often it is something their company would like to have as part of a campaign or for moving online. But like all of us they are given a budget to do and the domain will only be a part of this advertising budget. So if the domainer they are dealing with is making unreasonable demands (in their eyes) then they will just go with another option, and believe me they will have another option.
So next time you are dealing with a potential buyer, take a look at the situation from where they stand and maybe you’ll agree that the price your asking isn’t that realistic.

It’s true what you’re saying. But many times they will offer a lowball price on purpose. Because, indeed, they aren’t stupid.
Selling names to end users was never easy. If they approach you, it is a different story.
But I agree with everything you said.

Tia - i agree. Some of these companies out there have huge budgets and yet the offers i’ve had from them in my inbox are truly pitiful.
