Domaining is addictive! Pass me the cigarettes as I want an easy habit
Well I got another telling off again today by the girlfriend for spending more time looking at my computer than I did her this weekend. I gave the standard feeble excuse and felt guilty for about 5 minutes before I realised I had no control over my actions as I’m a domaining addict.
So after a 3 hour mood, which I managed to weather whilst looking at Monique (my computers name.) she came around and started speaking to me again.
Now the beauty and tragedy of this situation is that I’m not suffering alone. I know there are thousands of others out there who suffer from the same addiction and are spending far too many hours in front of the screen. I think it’s partly pleasure that drives us, but a large part of it is fear. Fear that we will be caught napping and miss out on a great opportunity that will be snapped up by a fellow domainer, who just had that little bit more stamina.
And that’s how we find ourselves staring at the screen at 1:00am with a sense of dread in the pit of our stomach that the alarm for work is going off in 5 hours. I often ask myself if I’m doing anything that’s going to add to the bottom line at this time and the answer is very rarely yes.
So going forwards I’m determined to break the addiction, it’ll be tough but I’ll be trying to cut down the hours to a reasonable amount and maybe in future get a chance to see what the sun looks like.
Here are some of the excuses I’ve found pretty handy in the past. Please feel free to use them and I’d be very interested in seeing yours, as I don’t think my resolve will hold out for long and I’ll need some new ones going forwards.
I have to pay someone who urgently needs the money.
I’m negotiating a big deal – but the guy is screwing around (You must act cross here)
Need to look at the map (This can only be used before going out)
Looking at holidays
Buying her a present (have a screen always open with this that you can flick to quickly)
James

I wish I could tell you that there’s hope James !
But once you’re hooked that’s it amigo - you passed the rubicon already pal ! No 12 step program can save you now !
btw Did I mention i’m selling 12StepPrograms.net?
See what I mean, I share your problem and I’ve tried everything - so don’t waste your time, accept it and learn to live with it !
ps give Monique my regards, and My Cindy says hello.
You’re a hopeless case imo
You mentioned your computers name but not your girlfriends !
Ha ha - Andy, you sound like a man who has been there and tried to give up. After what you’ve said i don’t think my chances are great.
P.S. Cindy sounds positively charming
In California, if there’s an earthquake in the middle of the night, you can bet I’m up and checking the latest quake maps/info… and to check parking revenue and auction drops, lol!
And I though only I went to work on 5 hours of sleep daily…lol. Yes domaining is addicting, add it to the 100’s of other tasks and studying of a webmaster and we are basically walking zombies…. got to love that 1st cup of morning coffee
Good list of excuses. You forgot the one where you are “looking up a movie” to take her to! Every so often, substitute “restaurant” for “movie”. That should give you an easy 5 more minutes of domaining time.
As seen on http://www.SubliminalMessages.Com :>)
hah, I have to pull an all nighter every time I sit in front my love, Hazel
cuz most of the action in the US happens during day time and its always night here in India when its day in United States
Hey, I could have written that story
Ok, maybe it’s an addiction but the a healthier one then the cigarettes. Hope you don’t combine these two?!
