The Best Business In The World

Friday, April 8, 2011
By admin

After almost 10 years of full time domaining I have to say that this is the best Business to be in. I love working from home. I love being my own boss and best of all I love domain names. Luckily I have no problem getting myself motivated. The rewards of your efforts are incentive enough to keep you going.

A few blog posts back I outlined the qualities I feel any domain broker worth his salt has to have in abundance. These same qualities apply to regular domainers. Tenacity is key. Too many domainers sit back when they have to get proactive. Some have a go but give up. What better salesman for your domains than you! Who will work harder than you to get sales? Sure plenty of domain owners simply don’t have the time or inclination to do the legwork and that’s where a broker comes in but what about the rest who have plenty of time but no inclination. Tenacity is the key. Even junk names can sell. If you close one deal in 50 you are doing ok. 1 in 25 then you’re doing well. 1 in 10 then you’re a pro.

Feel knocked down? Well get back up. Feel disillusioned? Well quit wasting energy on a feeling that will do nothing for you except drag you down even further. There’s a phrase "Suffering over your sufferring" Quit wasting time on negative emotions, think positive turn your situation around, think outside of the box, network, research, generate leads. If things aren’t going your way, make them!

Here’s a link to my favourite post on my domain forum

Disclaimer ~ The text in the main post was copied from a blog I used to run (which is now defunct)The advice is dated but the tone is spot on I believe.

If you feel like a loser today do something about it. The World owes none of us a living. Put the groundwork in, get smart

Hell maybe none of this applies. Maybe you are doing well, if you are good luck to you. Clearly you are doing something right. If it’s working keep on doing what you are doing. I have no stats to back anything up but all I know is there will be plenty of domainers right now (old and new) who are finding it impossible to get a break.

I’m Irish but I love the Jewish story that goes something like this.

"Mrs.Cohen isn’t your son lucky to be so rich!" To which Mrs.Cohen replies "It’s strange but the harder he works the luckier he gets"

Very well said. I’ve only been domaining full-time for a bit over 3 years and it’s certainly been a rough ride with some difficult financial patches. However I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s something I love doing, get huge satisfaction from and also get to be at home to watch my beautiful daughter grow up.

you just couldn’t keep those dot biz names off your list.
discipline is important. one time i heard about this feller that paid 200k for a dotmobi and sold it for 6k. i don’t know whether or not he made a profit on the deal but according to my math he prob’ly didn’t… but he earned my respect.

can you refer any domain brokers that are “worth their salt” as you put it.

I would have no problem paying someone a commission of 10 or 15% to actually sell some of my domains.

Well I call myself premium dns but christ I can’t sell a thing lately. Thanks for the best as it’s helped me refocus.

Lol thanks for the laugh. One biz which also happens to be a 3 letter biz and a word. Most importantly with a very low reserve price. Yes your Math is right but it’s a shame you weren’t sure. Also you need to capitalise the start of sentences! Finally I assume you are refering to Rick and the Flowers sale? Fortunately for Rick he has had one or two pretty good returns in his time.

Hey nice work on your earmuffs site! Awesome graphics, not lololo
