When a Wally gets a Website Anything can Happen!
Last night I had another learning experience on Namecake. Apparently anything I enter on my site is by default being sent as new content to the feeds.
So adding domains I had previously forgotten to list has caused my site to send about 40 messages to the news aggregation services out there that republish the articles I post.
It would be nice to somehow retrieve the messages that go out - but once the RSS feed is pinged it stays there - so all the info is stuck at the aggregators.
Still - even though it’s annoying for me and the people running the aggregators it’s yet another learning experience (that won’t be repeated.) It’s quite funny as in a previous post I liken web development to a battle and it’s sods law as just when I thought I was finally beginning to get on top of everything yet another problem/issue comes up to feast on my behind.
Thankfully I have a webmaster whose very patient (VERY) who answers my tedious questions and fixes any issues I have quickly - so this little issue is now a thing of the past.
So I apologize to those of you who have subscribed to my feed and have found today’s mail full of nonsense - my next few posts will be full of useful information (well as useful as I can muster.)
So for those of you who have sites out there I’d be interested in hearing annoying or funny things that have happened to you along the way.
